Find YOUR Purpose
My 7-year-old watches me write thank you notes and decided to write one for me. Actually, he said “it’s a song” that he later performed. This outpouring of love followed his first-grade field trip in May that I was able to attend as a volunteer. Two months later, I still keep his note on my desk as a daily reminder that…
1. In 3+ years, I will suddenly transform into an embarrassing “uncool” mom who will not be allowed to join him on field trips. (I know, I don’t understand this either.)
2. This was my motivation one year ago that pushed me to embark on this journey. I wanted to continue excelling professionally but have more time and energy at the end of the day for my kids, my husband and myself. I was tired of feeling like I was missing out on these moments (like a field trip) that seem somewhat unimportant in the big picture but are actually building blocks that create the relationships I desire.
It’s not enough to understand what you do and why it provides value in the lives of others - customers, employees, volunteers, partnering businesses, etc. You need to understand why it is important to you. Why it drives you to wake up everyday energized and motivated to do the best you can and make every moment count.
